Interesting

Thank you for reading my Blog,

First, let me say I’m sorry if you went to the OCD walk today because it got cancelled.  They are going to try to reschedule it.  I will let you know the date when I find out.

My week started out interesting.  About 11 a.m. on Monday morning there was a  second or third grade child standing by the  boy’s restroom sink playing with his underwear. He did have the rest of his clothes on.  He was swinging his underwear around his pointer finger, and rolling them into a ball with both hands. He put them on the broken hand dry. I’m waiting for a new hand dryer to come in.  When I asked him about putting them on he told me no they are wet and I am going to get a bag from the nurse. I told him he should go do that and he did. My OCD was going a little crazy just knowing he touched the railing going down the steps along with so many door handles and  other things without washing his hands.  I saw Rachel on Thursday, apart from talking about other things we talked about this situation.  I could see it on her face before she got the chance to ask me about if I went around to clean everywhere he touched, I told her I didn’t go around to clean after him.  I have to tell you it was not easy to not go around even the next morning when I got to work.  I also had to not ruminate about his situation, which was not easy either.  I did wonder if this was an OCD issue I was having or was it just gross.  I just happened to listen to the OCD Whisper podcast that morning.  It was episode 152.  They were talking about reality anchors.  This is the way she described it on the podcast.  Reality anchor - Lets say you are checking your bank account twice a day. You check with someone who doesn't have OCD and ask them how many times they check their bank account a week or a day.  This will be your measure or gauge on what is reasonable. It is a real life example. This could help you to determine if your issue is OCD or not.  This might not be perfect in every situation.  I went to a couple of people to get their opinion.  They told me it was gross.  This was good to know, but the compulsion to clean everything and ruminating about it was OCD.  You should check out the OCD Whisper podcast.  It is a really good podcast.  The rest of my week wasn’t bad, I was just a little under the weather with sinus issues.  Don’t give up.  You can beat anything with God and a good therapist.

If you would like to contact me for any reason, I now have a contact me tab at the top of the page.
